Silly Patents - Kissing Shield

The kissing shield is a device that was invented to protect kissers from getting diseases while they engage in this pleasurable activity. One places the kissing shield’s thin protective membrane over his or her lips, cheeks, and chin and then kisses their partner. The kissing shield consists of a supporting member and has a handle for the user to hold. This is easily one of the most absurd patents I have seen, as many people trust that their partner doesn’t have anything contagious as well as takes away from the enjoyment of kissing another person. The kissing shield was officially patented in 1998 by Deloris Wood. It is filed under US5727565.

An apparatus for preventing the exchange of microorganisms between two persons engaged in the act of kissing, the apparatus comprising:

1.     The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the frame extends angularly from the handle such that the handle is substantially collinear with the nose of a person when the frame is positioned to outline the mouth, cheek and chin areas of the person.

2.     The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the membrane has a pocket sized and shaped to receive the tongue of one of the two persons such that the membrane prevents the exchange of microorganisms between the two person engaged in the act of French kissing.

3.     The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the membrane is impervious to the human immuno-deficiency virus.
