-Penicillin
Founded by Alexander Fleming in 1928. It has been
instrumental in killing bacterial diseases and does not harm humans. Penicillin
became mass marketed to the public in 1944. The inventor, Fleming, was known to be a poor communicator
and thus many notable figures in the science industry did not give credit to
him during the early stages of his discovery.
-Internet
The Internet has revolutionized the way people obtain
and disseminate information. Billions of people use the Internet every day, and
without it, society would process at a much slower and economic
growth would be nowhere near where it is today. The Internet’s origin can
be traced to computer scientist Lawerence Roberts, who worked for the
Department of Defense as a way for computers to communicate within the agency.
-Compass
The first compass was invented in the Han Dynasty in China.
Before the advent of the compass, early travelers primarily used land markers
and celestial methods to navigate. The compass facilitates navigation by
displaying direction relative to cardinal directions.
-Plumbing
The innovation of modern plumbing has been revolutionary, as
it has helped prevent the spread of many waterborne diseases. Plumbing was
first created in ancient civilization in Rome, Greece, India, and China.
Plumbing transfers potable water, and disseminates waste product. Waste
Management sites filter in the waste from households in the local area and
clean the water so it can be used as reclaimed water to prevent fire and also
keep golf courses green.
-Printing Press
Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press around 1440.
The printing press is in my opinion the most important invention of all time.
It represents the beginning of recorded history as well as the widespread
dissemination of knowledge. Gutenberg created a hand mold for moveable type
that enabled nearly 3,600 pages to be produced in a single day.
-Currency
Currency is money that is used to mediate exchange between
people. Currency is recognized as a medium of exchange, which emerged when
trade became popular between different empires and groups of people. A modern
revolution in the currency age is the Internet, which is one of my inventions,
as Venmo and other apps made the exchange of currency much easier.
-Shoes
Shoes are a revolutionary invention that have enabled humans
to walk long distances on foot without causing severe harm to their feet as
well as enabling them to add aid to good posture. Humans have gone from living
to age 35 until on average age 75, and shoes have enabled this by protecting
their ability to walk, which keeps them from remaining sedentary.
-Genetically Modified Food
Genetically modified food has been revolutionary in feeding
our population. The world has recently hit 7 billion people, and without the
invention of genetically modified food, we would be unable to feed all the
people who are livning. Although genetically modified food is readily available
to be produced on a massive scale, it can have health risks that humans don’t know about because it is only a
recent phenomena.
-Light Bulb
Thomas Edison invented the light bulb in 1879, which was
merely a bulb connected to a generator via electrical wiring. The light bulb
enabled people to do many more things at night including reading and cooking.
The light bulb had a huge impact on people productivity levels as they can
do anything at anytime now instead of only when there was sunlight. People use
to go to bed when the sun went down, but with the invention of the light bulb
people now go to bed much later in the evening.
-Contraception
Contraception is revolutionary in family planning and
societal organization. The invention of contraception has resulted in families
planning when they are going to have their kids, thus making them able to be
responsible parents and not have as many orphans and/or kids living below the
poverty line.
